Performance technique based on the conversion of light into sound through the photovoltaic effect of solar panel. Silicon cells of the solar panels transform the frequencies of light objects into sound images, which can then be modulated by the classic analog effects or processed within different computer audio platforms. The basic methodology is divided into working with artificial (LED, video projections, neon, tungsten, sprayers, UV etc.) and natural light sources (sun).
HALF BAND HALF PROJECT
Is the name under which multimedia artist Bojan Gagic and electroacoustic engineer Miodrag Gladovic started their first luminoacoustic research in 2011. The name originates from the first experiment in conversion of light produced by theatre spotlights into sound: LIGHT / LIGHT + MELODY / TUNE + TONE G/50Hz. It is a unique and self-developed technique, which they named luminoacoustics, and for which LIGHTUNE.G won the Third Prize at Guthman New Musical Instrument Competition in Atlanta, in 2012.
Bojan Gagic is a multimedia artist working internationally in the sphere of sound art and field recordings. Parallelly to working as a technical director for theatre, film and music festivals. His work also includes music for short experimental films, together with light and sound design for many theatre plays. He is the author of experimental films (some of them in the collection of Academia Cravatica and the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb). He is the co-founder of the Zagreb platform for new sound expressions Sinelinea.
Miodrag Gladovic is an engineer in electroacoustics, musician, music producer and multimedia artist. As a musician he is heavily involved in the underground music scene. Based on DIY ethics Gladovic co-founded the independent record label Moonlee Records. Since 2010 his work is more related to experimental and improvised music and multimedia art. Gladovic performs solo with his audio-visual project Packmess GP (Grains & Particles), exploring new forms of musical expression.
LIVE SET, INSTALLATION
Is the first luminoacoustic public project divided into chapters. Each new performance implies a new chapter that is different from the previous one by introducing new light objects, by changing module situations, spatial set-up, dynamics of performance, inclusion of the audience or simply by changing the basic structure of performance. Lighterature Reading consists of nine solar panels mounted on microphone stands, which are intervened into, through the changing of light conditions, by Lightune.G.
LUMINOACOUSTIC DRIVE THROUGH THE CITY
Is the project based on the relation between accidental light elements needed to produce a sound image. Six solar panels are set on the roof of the van and connected to the audio system of the vehicle through a computer. Six people (which is the number of seats in the van) choose six city routes during a night ride. City street lights, window shops, advertising lights, depending on the traffic and direction, create a sound sequel. In this case, the driver is the composer and every performance is unique.
Is the first luminoacoustic object made from an old turntable from the eighties, old MusicBox record from the early 20th century, solar panel, RGB lighting and PD. Light generates a sound by passing through a hole in the vinyl record, below which the solar panel is placed. There is three active components; R (red) makes R (rhytm), G (green) makes G (glitches) and B (blue) makes B (body, melody, texture).
